 My name is Mrs. Harrington and I Algebra 1

Algebra 1 introduces students to variables, algebraic expressions, equations, inequalities, functions, and all their multiple representations. In this class, students will develop the ability to explore and solve real-world application problems, demonstrate the appropriate use of graphing calculators, and communicate mathematical ideas clearly. This course lays the foundation for mathematical literacy that will help students be successful in every subsequent course in mathematics.

You should have a basic understanding of all math classes up to this point.  Math builds on itself, and every layer is equally important.  I don’t expect you to remember everything you’ve ever learned in a math class, so here are so

some main ideas I expect you to be confident in:

  • Operations with numbers (no calculator)
  • Fractions, decimals, proportions and percents
  • Solving one and two step equations
  • Graphing

Algebra I is a year-long course broken into two semesters A/B.  You must pass A in order to move to B.

First Semester (A)

Review of various math topics

Unit 1: Solving various types of equations

Unit 2: Solving various inequalities

Unit 3: Functions/Graphing

Unit 4: Linear Equations

                Second Semester (B)

Unit 5: Systems of Equations/Inequalities

Unit 6: Exponents/Exponential Functions

Unit 7: Polynomials

Unit 8: Quadratic Functions

Unit 9: Solving Quadratic Equations

Grading Policy

  • Assessments 70%

  • Classwork/Homework  30%

Algebra I A

Quarter 1       45%

Quarter 2       45%

D    =  68 - 70

D-  =  65 - 67

F    =    0 - 64

 Late work:

  • All assignments have a due date.

  • Late assignments will have 5 points deducted per day.

  • Maximum grade is a 50 after 10 days.

  • No assignments will accepted after the unit test for that assignment

I'm looking forward to a great year of promoting a healthy growth mindset!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Harrington
