CLASS RULES:

1. ACADEMIC FRAUD

Cheating will not be tolerated. We will do everything possible to prevent cheating to ensure that everyone receives a fair grade. Cheating will result in a grade of zero for that assignment. Cheating can result in dismissal from the National Honor Society and student government. We will not write a letter of recommendation for anyone who is caught cheating in the class.

 

2. LATENESS

You are expected to be on time to class. You must be in the room when the bell is finished ringing. If you come in after the bell rings you are late.  Also, don’t linger when the bell rings. Go directly to your seat and prepare for the class warm up if one is supplied. First lateness is a warning. Subsequent lateness will result in a detention. 

 

3. ABSENT

If you absent, please go to the make up bin and talk to your group-mates to get all missed work and notes.

 

4. FOOD AND DRINKS

There is to be no eating or drinking in class. Food or drink should not be visible in my room. Please see the nurse and obtain a note if you have a medical reason requiring you to have a food or beverage during class.

 

 

CLASS EXPECTATIONS:

1. TALKING

There is to be no talking during the lecture section of the class. During instruction and while other students are posing questions, it is expected that the students be attentive.

 

2. GROUPWORK

A large part of class time each day will be spent carrying out activities, problem sets, and experiments in your group. Your group consists of you and your fellow tablemates. Student participation in your group with be graded based on the rubric provided and will serve as part of your participation grade. All members of the group must be attentive and active contributors. All opinions and thoughts must be heard and respected. To ask for help from Mr. Kosior or Mr. Ferzetti, all members of the group must agree that they have that question.

 

4. CELL PHONES

Cell phones may be utilized during class time for different activities. It is expected that students only use cell phones for class purposes. Students will utilize applications including Socrative (Student), Remind, and Edpuzzle.

 

5. DESK TOPS

The desks in B109 have new desktops. We expect them to stay neat and clean. No writing on the desks will be tolerated. Any permanent damage to a desk will be considered an act of vandalism and will be dealt with by the Mr. Matusz in the discipline office.

 

 

6. PASS PRIVILEGES

Do not abuse your pass privileges. Go where you are supposed to go. Don’t disturb other teacher’s classes. Any violation of pass privileges will result in the termination of your pass privileges.

 

7. LAB BEHAVIOR

You are expected to conduct yourself in a safe manner during labs.  Labs are not a time to fool around. Lack of proper conduct during labs will result in disciplinary actions. We have invested in expensive computer-based laboratory equipment. You will have to replace any lab equipment that you break. “My bad” is not an excuse.

NOTEBOOK

Use any notebook that you need to stay organized. Notes and handouts will be given during the year. A folder is required to organize your notes and handouts.

 

NOTES:

  • Please ask for help whenever you are notsure about anything. Ignorance is not an excuse.
  • Make arrangements for extra help if you are having problems. We are here before school and after school each day.
  • Turn in work in the file cabinet in the back of the room in the proper period.


 

GRADING PROCEDURE

 

TESTS - 50 %

Tests may consist of any combination of a multiple-choice section, a short answer section, and a problem section. If you are absent the day of the test, you have how many days you were absent prior to the test to take a make up the test. It will not be the same test. For make up tests, after school time is preferred.

 

QUIZES - 15%

Quizzes may be announced or unannounced. Quizzes will primarily review concepts addressed in prior classwork and homework assignments. If you are absent the day of a quiz, you have how many days you were absent prior to the quiz to take a make up the quiz. It will not be the same quiz. For make up quizzes, after or before school time is preferred.

 

HOMEWORK/ CLASSWORK/ PARTICIPATION - 10 %

Homework will be due at the beginning of the class on the day after it is assigned. If you are absent the day the homework is assigned, it is to be turned in at the beginning of the class after you get the assignment.Homework is practice. It is graded partially for effort. A few problems will be selected from each assignment at random to grade for correctness. Every problem should be attempted and work should be shown for every problem. Each day your homework is late is a 15 pt. deduction. After two days of lateness, the homework will not be accepted. Students will be graded for their participation in group work and class discussions. The Bell Work and Exit Tickets of each class also count for participation.

 

LABS - 25 %

Lab data and reports will be due three days after the data is collected. There will be a deduction of 15 points for every day that a lab is late. It is your responsibility to make up any missed labs. If your group feels you all need more data or feel an error was made in data collection, your group may schedule a time before or after school to continue the experiment prior to its due date.

 

SENIORS

Final exam exemption policy is in effect.
