In this course we will study the ceramic artwork of ancient cultures as well as that of Contemporary Ceramic Artists. Students will learn the three hand building methods used in ceramics (pinch, coil, and slab) and learn how to produce functional and sculptural artwork using these techniques.  Throughout the semester students in this course will also have the opportunity to learn and practice some beginning pottery techniques using the potter’s wheel. The students will be using different clay bodies, glazes, and stains and will learn how to build, finish, and fire their own ceramic artwork.
