General Classroom Rules
- Give an honest effort.
- Respect others and their property.
- Seek help when you need it.
- No one has the right to interfere with learning.
Classroom Procedures
Entering Class
- Enter the classroom quietly with all necessary materials for class. This includes your binder, textbook, pencil/pen, notebook, homework, etc.
- Once the bell rings you will be considered late if you are not inside of the classroom and on your way to your seat. *Excessive tardiness will result in a detention.
- Go directly to your assigned seat and get ready for class.
- Check the board for materials you will need and begin working on your warm-up. When you are finished with your warm-up, copy the class objectives down onto your Cornell Notes.
During Class
- Practice SLANT at all times - especially when the teacher is giving directions or lecturing.
- Raise your hand to speak or to leave your seat, unless I give instructions otherwise.
- The number of hall passes will be limited. Please use them wisely! Your agenda book is your pass. Please don’t lose it or allow others to use it as their pass.
- During fire drills or other emergency situations, please follow my instructions and the instructions posted in the classroom.
- Cell phones are not permitted in class. They should be turned off so they are not a distraction. There may be times that we utilize devices such as cell phones as part of a lesson or as a learning tool, but otherwise they should not be seen or heard.
Assignments
- Any papers or assignments submitted for grading must contain a proper heading for credit.
- When you are absent or miss class for any reason, it is your responsibility to get any class notes and make up all assignments that you missed.
- Any late homework and classwork assignments must be accompanied by a signed late work slip.
- Any work turned in after the assignment has been collected from the class will be considered late.
- Students will have one school day to turn in late work.
- Late work accompanied by a late work slip will receive 75% of the original grade.
- Students will receive a limited number of late work slips per marking period.
Leaving Class
- Before leaving class, make sure the area surrounding your desk is clean. Discard paper in the recycling bin and other garbage in the trash can.
- Before leaving class, make sure you record all assignments/responsibilities in your agenda book.
We will be working on these procedures as well as others that aren’t specifically listed here. Please refer to The Key for school rules and procedures not listed here.
Disciplinary Procedure
In the unfortunate and hopefully rare instances when a student cannot follow the rules and procedures I have outlined, I will take the following actions*:
1. Warning
2. 15-minute detention
3. 30-minute detention
4. Parent Contact
5. Referral
*Please note: Severe infractions are subject to immediate office referral.
These classroom rules and procedures were designed to create a safe, efficient and positive classroom where all students can learn. By following them, I hope we will have a very successful year.
