Course Description
This 5-credit course focuses on world history from the Renaissance to the present. Unit I begins in roughly the 1400s, but there will be a brief review of prior periods. Geographic concepts and locations are integrated into the study of the history of the modern world. This may seem like a big task, but remember, this course will focus on events that have significant impacts on the entire hemisphere or world. As an advanced course, Students will be expected to do more independent readings and a variety of research projects.

Objectives for students in this course are for students:
- to learn what real historians do and develop an appreciation of history.
- to study major themes of world history from the Renaissance to the post-WWII world.
- to have a greater understanding of self and culture by looking at history through different perspectives.
- to learn to use a wide variety of secondary and primary sources.
- to be able to synthesize, analyze, and make connections with information.
- Work effectively with others to produce various academic products (such as projects, presentations, reviews for tests and quizzes, etc.)
Evaluation and Assessment
In order to receive a passing grade, you will be expected to:
- Come to class prepared on a daily basis. (See Materials needed for class below)
- Complete assignments on time and to the best of your ability.
- Follow directions and classroom procedures.
- Actively participate in class and during group activities.
- Maintain a notebook and journal.
- Obtain passing scores on tests, quizzes, projects and the final exam.
Your quarter (marking period) grades will be calculated in the following manner:
40% - Major assessments (Tests, papers, individual projects and group projects)
30% - Homework, classwork, and group assignments
20% - Quizzes
10% - Participation – This includes general class participation as well as group participation.
Your course grade will be calculated in the following manner:
40% Quarter 1 Grade
40% Quarter 2 Grade
20% Final Exam Grade
100% - Final Course Grade

- Write down any questions you still may have and bring them up in class.
